Grape of wrath
I know I'm not Steinbeck but the title seemed appropriate.
We are still getting more grapes, every day more and more and yesterday I came through somehting which already disturbed me last year.
Child labour.
You see the truck, you see the crates and you see three , 8 or 9 years old kids emptying the truck. I still remember the smile of last year one and his broken down clothes, no buttons on his shirt, a very very old trouser but a beautiful smile. I remember I felt like crying, like fighting
Not to face the reality I use to fancy that maybe he was the farmer kid but....this one is sent to school and to top school not to download a truck full of crates. Having been to the farm I could also no pretend that my fancy was reality, I saw the reality.
You just feel wave of anger coming through and a huge feeling of being powerless.
They should be at school, they should play around with kids of their age, running around and getting dirty , not emptying 20 kg crates from a shabby truck.
They looked so small but already so old, they looked so powerless.
The anger is increased by the fact that the farmer is a rich educated guy coming from a supposely "royal, prince" lineage.
What to do ? How to do it ?
Once again you are just left with questions.
